Band on the Wall appoints Lawyer Andy BoothTHURS 13 MAY, Andy Booth, head of company commercial and creative industries at Turner Parkinson LLP, has been appointed a director of Inner City Music Limited, the operating company of legendary music venue, Band on the Wall.
Andy, a specialist music lawyer since 1994, entered the legal profession after an earlier career as one of the founding members of the band The Cassandra Complex. The band reformed in 2007 and has since played across the world in the UK, Germany, Brazil and Holland. They also headlined the Bodybeats Festival in Antwerp, Belgium on 1 May 2010.
Band on the Wall, based on Swan Street in the Northern Quarter, is a not-for-profit venue and had a £3.2m refurbishment between 2006 - 2009. It has been part of the history of Manchester for 200 years and has staged music events since the 1930s.
Gavin Sharp, general manager at Band on the Wall, says: "We are overjoyed that Andy has accepted our invitation to join the board. His experience within the music industry, as both a performer and lawyer, will be a great asset as we continue to develop exciting new initiatives. His expertise in music licensing and publishing will be invaluable to the organisation, especially regarding our unique archive programme, and as we continue to explore other opportunities within the digital realm. Andy's network within the industry is second to none and will undoubtedly open up new possibilities for both the venue and organisation."
Booth adds: "It is an honour to be involved in the Band on the Wall. Gavin was one of my first music business clients and I'm looking forward to supporting him in establishing the Band on the Wall as Manchester's premier music venue. It now has fantastic state of the art facilities, combined with an unrivalled heritage, and it's very exciting to be playing a part in the continuing story of this historic venue."
Booth has also been appointed a director of Greater Manchester Music Action Zone Ltd (GMMAZ). Based at the Band on the Wall premises, GMMAZ designs and delivers music projects for young people throughout the 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester.
